Spam, by definition, is any unsolicited E-mail message. "Get Rich Quick" schemes, chain letters,
unwelcome product offers, unsolicited customer mailings, invitations to adult sites and hate mail are all examples of spam.
Spam is the bane of the Internet and causes millions of users frustration, annoyance and
anger. We at Fat City absolutely do not tolerate spam in any form. All of the websites
that we host have been verified to be spam-free, and new customers must agree to
our Acceptable Use Policy as part of their agreement for website hosting services.
In addition, Fat City will never sell our customer's address lists, nor do we provide lists of
other E-mail addresses which you can buy. We will not tell you where you can buy such lists, nor will
we aid or otherwise help anyone who is interested in such.
If you are interested in having us host your website, you might want to review our
Acceptable Use Policy and Terms and Conditions agreements
before signing up with us.
Spamming
FAQ
Why don't you host
sites that spam, even if they do not use your servers for spamming?
All ethical issues aside,
our contracts with the communications companies that bring us connectivity
to the Internet do not allow it. Hosting a spammer gives us and our
ISP a bad name in the Internet community. We also will do our part as a responsible net.citizen
to eliminate spam from the Internet.
What about sending
solicited, opt-in E-mail to our own customers?
This is fine. E-mail can
be a very effective way to distribute information to customers. However,
we only allow opt-in mailing lists to be used. You should review our mailing list
hosting information for more commentary on opt-in mailing lists. There are many questions that
you should consider before doing this, however. How are your customers a "customer"? Do they
know they are a customer? Are you trying to sell them something or merely
sending an announcement? Do they have a means of getting off your mailing list
if they request it? Please consider the feelings and wishes of your customers before starting a mailing list.
We have many users
on our site. What if a user decides to ignore this policy and spam anyway?
We are reasonable and we
take this into consideration. You must let all new users who have access to
E-mail facilities know of our policies regarding spam. If a violation occurs, we will ask you to remind the user of the
policy and make sure it does not happen again. It they continue to send
unsolicited messages, your account will be in jeopardy. We strongly discourage
customers giving users access to E-mail accounts or auto responders through their
website. Such facilities are a breeding ground for spammers.
Are you saying that
that there is a limit to what kind of legal business I can conduct on
my website?
Not at all! You can use your
website for any legal purpose (adult sites excluded). You just cannot
use unsolicited E-mail lists, nor allow them to exist under your control and patronage.
