| What kind of list is best for me? |
|

The type of list you might need can be selected fairly easily.
If you want to share information with other subscribers in a totally open, collaborative
fashion, you want an Open List. If you want your list to be open to the entire Internet,
where anyone can subscribe to the list and read the messages, then you want a Public List.
If you want to limit your subscriber base to certain people that you add to the list by
yourself, or that can only subscribe using a password you've given them, then you
want a Private List.
If you are a company or organization and want to send information to your customers
(for example, a newsletter or weekly update), then you need only decide whether you
want those customers to be able to respond to the list and post messages. If not,
then you want an Announce Only list. If you want to let them respond, then you most
likely want a Private List where they can only sign up from your website or using
instructions that you provide to them.
If it's important that you read every message before it is posted to the list -- for
security or privacy reasons, for instance -- then you want a Moderated List. This type
of list allows subscribers to submit postings, but they don't actually get posted to
the list until you read and approve each message.
Note that with each kind of list, you can specify list administrators and exempt
users who can override any posting restrictions. In addition, you can also specify
subscribers who you don't want to allow to post.
