- Review our Terms and Policies
The four documents you need to review are:
- Sign up with us to host your list
Send our sales group an E-mail message
and tell us you want to start a list and which
package
would work best for you. We will start the
process of determining what features you need and what additional information
may be necessary.
- Answer the configuration questions
In the meantime, you can start thinking about three things that we will need right away
to set up your list:
- The mailing list name (see #4 below)
- A "welcome" message to be sent to all new subscribers (see #5 below).
- Who should be allowed to post messages to the list (usually, everyone) and
when you want the list to be activated.
If you want, you can fill out our on-line questionnaire and be
ready with your answers. To do so, click here and
then just hit "Send" (no message body is needed as this is an auto-responder).
- Choose a name for your list
Mailing list names are up to 30 characters in length and must begin with an
alphabetic character. All mailing list names end with "-L" (to indicate that they
are a mailing list). Hyphens and underscores are the only punctuation characters you
may use, and we recommend only using hyphens (underscores often blend into underlines when
viewed on-line). You may choose any name for your list as long as it doesn't conflict
with another list name hosted here at Fat City. If you choose to host your list using
your own virtual domain (@lists.mydomain.com), then you may choose any name.
You can view a list of mailing list names which are already taken by clicking
here.
- Create a "Welcome!" message
While we are setting up your list, you should be thinking of what you want to
be in your welcome message. This is the message that is sent to each new subscriber
when they are added to your list. One or two paragraphs are perfect. The welcome
message should tell subscribers what your list is for, what are acceptable and not-
acceptable postings, rules, suggestions, etc. We will add some stock text about
commonly used ListGuru commands, contact information, etc., to your text to make
a complete welcome message.
You can view a sample welcome message for a typical mailing list hosted here
by clicking here.
- Tell us when you want to go live
New lists can be created in about 24 hours on average; faster if needed. However
there is no rush. You have a 10-day free trial period, so if you would like to have
your list set up so that you can test it, explore, etc., that can be done. You can
then schedule the date which you want your list to be available to the masses.
