Fat City utilizes a heterogenous network of servers to distribute the load among
the various activities of list serving and web serving needs. Each server has a
fallback server designated for use if the primary server fails or goes down. We
have dedicated servers for list hosting, website hosting, mail delivery and database
actions. Each is amply equipped to support its task and grow as our customer's
needs grow.
We do not oversell our bandwidth, and take great pains to make sure all of our
websites and mailing lists are fast, responsive and capable. Our connection to
the Internet is via high-speed, redundant T1 connections to a major node on the backbone
(Hosting.com). We have a backup connection
to the Internet for those instances where the primary connection would be compromised
or disconnected. We are battery-backed up, with ample cooling and environmental controls
to make sure our equipment is available at all times.
Our servers use a combination of technologies, including Windows NT, Red Hat Linux,
Macromedia ColdFusion, Microsoft SQL Server, PHP, Oracle and other technologies. We select our
hardware and software to best meet the needs of the specific function that each server
will perform on our network. Some customers chose to host only on Microsoft-based servers,
while others will want to host on Linux-based servers. We can accomodate everyone.
Our mailing list software is called "ListGuru" and was developed in-house to meet
the specific needs of our users. After reviewing all of the mailing list manager
packages available, it was determined that no single package was able to do all that
we wanted. The option was to settle for second best, or create our own software
that does everything we need (and more) and which could be expanded in the future.
Although the software took over a year to develop -- and continues to develop -- it has
proven to be the correct decision. We are flexible and dynamic, whereas other mailing
list manager packages are unable to change with the times. We believe ListGuru is one
of our greatest strengths.
Our network infrastructure has been designed to be fault-tolerant, stable and capable of supporting
our customer's needs now and in the future. You can rest assured that you will be
provided with the most capable and reliable systems we offer.
